On his latest single, “Thinkin’ Bout U,” multi-instrumentalist Sean Green reflects on both a relationship with another person as well as managing the difficult relationship you have with yourself when alone.

Green, who is from Indiana but now claims Chicago home, opens the track up with a laidback guitar interlude followed by the observation “Saw you around/like a painting/at a bar in my hometown.” Throughout the single, Green’s melancholy lyrics mirror the mellow guitar, slow drum grooves and subtle psychedelic-esque effects. Feedback and Green’s falsetto “do do dos” eventually crescendo into the song’s end.

Claudia Giralt-Femme (aka Claude), who is a member of Green’s band for live shows, contributed on keys and Late Nite Laundry drummer Alex Santilli played auxiliary percussion on the single.

Both “Thinkin’ Bout U” and “Driver,” a single released earlier this summer, show development in Green’s sound since his EP Don’t Be Mean released in early 2018.

Perfume Hill, Green’s next EP, will be released later this summer. He will also be opening for Baltimore dream-pop band June Pastel for a leg of their upcoming U.S. tour
