SO IF YOU RESIDE IN OR AROUND MURFREESBORO, NASHVILLE, OR CHATTANOOGA, BE SURE TO GET SOME INFO BELOW + GO DANCE YOUR BUTT OFF!!!

WHAT IS DOGMA DANCE OFF???? WHO ALL IS INVOLVED?

ETHAN: Dogma Dance Off is a charity music and arts festival that makes a party out of giving! Our goal here at Dogma is to make communities stronger by raising funds for a local charity while giving a platform for local musicians, artist, performers, and small businesses. Dogma Dance Off is a large community comprised of the folks who perform, set up booths, attend, and plan the festival. The main Dogs who help put Dogma together are me (Ethan Boyd), Tanner Pancake, Ryley Merritt, Oscar Valenzuela, Hannah Glass, and so many other volunteers and friends!

TELL ME ABOUT THE BIRTH OF THE DOG! HOW DID THIS LOVELY THING COME INTO BEING???

Dogma Dance Off was birthed out of my brain when I realized I love planning/hosting events, realized how talented my friends are, and realized that charity is the coolest thing ever. It started off in my backyard and has grown into a 3 day touring festival!!!

THIS HAS NOT ALWAYS BEEN A TRAVELING AFFAIR, USUALLY JUST A ONE DAY EVENT IN MURFREESBORO, TN CORRECT? HOW DID YOU EVOLVE INTO A 3 DAY + 3 LOCATION FESTIVAL?

You’re exactly right! The idea to make it a touring festival came from the influence my homies who tour had on me. I do a lot of booking in Chattanooga for out of town bands and I generally host the bands at my house so seeing other weirdos hit the road made me want to take Dogma on tour. This year we’ll be going from Nashville to Murfreesboro to Chattanooga May 31st – June 2nd.

WHAT CHARITIES ARE DOGMA DANCE OFF HELPING OUT WITH THIS YEAR?

Our beneficiaries for the 2019 Dogma Dance Off are Jessi Zazu Inc and Mark Making! JZI is a Nashville charity who seeks to memorialize their friend and family member Jessi Zazu who was a badass musician and artist. JZI focuses on art accessibility/activism, social justice, and women’s health! Mark Making are based out of Chattanooga and make art-based activism large scale by getting disadvantaged youths and people experiencing homelessness involved in making giant murals across Chattanooga. These non-profits do amazing work and inspire me to keep doing Dogma Dance Off.

HOW CAN PEOPLE GET INVOLVED IF THEY’D LIKE?

We’ll be posting about opportunities to volunteer here shortly! Dogma has been built on nothing but volunteer work. The artists, videographers, stage crew, performers, and myself all dedicate our time and talent to the greater good, so just reach out to me and we can find you a place in the team.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT OUR READERS TO KNOW/TO GET PUMPED ABOUT??

Dogma Dance Off is more than just a music festival! We celebrate all forms of art and expression so come on out to see so much more than what you’re used to at festivals and fares. Bring some cash to donate and let’s make a real impact on the communities we live in <3.
