AN INTERVIEW WITH LOVE YOU LATER
Love You Later is the brainchild of 19 year old and inhabitant of both LA and Nashville, Lexi Aviles. Love You Later is a dance party at a discotheque, cherry red lipstick on a Friday night, bubblegum and bellbottoms. With the release of their latest EP, How Many Nights Do You Dance With Tears in Your Eyes, Love You Later is bound to be the soundtrack for those nights full of dancing with your best friends in your bedroom after your summer fling has broken your heart. Make sure you have a disco ball and box of tissues ready.
WHO IS LOVE YOU LATER?? TELL US EVERYTHING!
Howdy, thanks so much for having me!!! My name is Lexi, I’m 19 years old, and Love You Later is my 80’s inspired dream pop solo project I started a little over a year and a half ago. It’s essentially my little baby.
LOS ANGELES + NASHVILLE! HOW DO THESE MUSICAL CITIES INFLUENCE YOUR MUSIC, IF AT ALL? OR THE JOURNEY BETWEEN THEM?
I’m really lucky to be living in both of these cities because they are both sooo unique and inspiring in their own ways. I have a love/hate relationship with Los Angeles...everywhere you look you are pretty much drooling because the weather is perfect and living 10 minutes from the beach isn’t so bad either. The beach is definitely is a spot where I get a whole lot of my musical inspiration, especially California beaches. But then again, the traffic suxxxx and sometimes I wish I could just teleport and sometimes the people aren’t the nicest because they’re all trying to get somewhere and no one can just sit and relax. I’ve just learned from living in Southern California that people care a lot about material things and less about how you treat people so it’s made me a stronger person in general because I had to be my own person and not adapt to the ways of the culture around me.
Nashville, on the other hand, is just so stinkin special to me. I have less to say about it because it’s so perfect, I can’t even explain it. The city is full of creatives of every breed and I’m constantly inspired. Everyone is so supportive of one another and it’s THE BEST feeling - something I hadn’t felt before I moved there. It’s where I do most of my co-writes for this reason. There really is no place like it and it’s almost hard to put into words how I feel about it.
HOW MANY NIGHTS DO YOU DANCE WITH TEARS IN YOUR EYES?? ;~)
LOL, every night...
WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR DEBUT EP, HOW MANY NIGHTS DO YOU DANCE WITH TEARS IN YOUR EYES?? A GOAL YOU HAD WHEN CREATING IT? OVERARCHING THEME? INSPIRATION WHILE WRITING IT?
Well it’s been about a year and a half since I started Love You Later and I can honestly say I never thought I’d get to the point where I’d have people wanting to hear new music and singing along at shows, etc. Obviously I have a long way to go, but it’s just been super surreal for me to have people that believe in my music. I’ve been itching to release this EP for a while now, and it’s finally here! So my goal with the EP was to have the listeners be able to relate to it in their own way. I put my heart and soul into each and every one of these songs, so I just hope people feel the authenticity pouring out of me and that it translates to them in some way. Love You Later has always been heavily inspired by the 80s so people like Fleetwood Mac and The Cure are huge inspirations for this EP. Overall, I hope people can cry to it, dance to it, make out to it, etc - as long as they feel some genuine emotion deeply, I will feel like I have done my job as an artist.
YOUR MUSIC IS TAGGED AS ‘OVERLY ROMANTIC DREAM POP.’ WHY DO YOU THINK EVERYONE WRITES SONGS ABOUT LOVE????
Yeah that’s a really good question. Not to sound cheesy or anything but I think we were made to love! It’s embedded in us and we would be empty without love and us as humans essentially need love to survive. Love has the power to affect someone positively or negatively in a matter of seconds. It’s so fascinating in my opinion. Whether it’s a romantic relationship or friendship or fatherly or motherly love, love is what makes us feel whole! So I think it’s worth writing/talking about it :)
THE FIRST THING THAT ALWAYS CATCHES MY ATTENTION WHEN I GO TO YOUR SITE IS THE DISCO BALL!! HAS DISCO HAD ANY INFLUENCE ON YOUR TUNES??
I’m glad that’s the first thing that catches your attention ;) Yeah, I really love the shimmery, happy vibe the disco ball itself gives off. I love to dance and use that as a way to “let loose” and so I wanted bring in that 80’s prom theme with this whole EP.
IF YOU COULD CREATE IN ANY PAST CENTURY, WHICH AND WHY?
This one’s easy. Just the 80s have really influenced my music and me as a person - if I could go back in time, I’d create art in the 80’s for sure, and hopefully do it with some of my favorite musicians like Fleetwood Mac, Bowie, and The Cure … ugh, what a dream.
ANY UPCOMING SHOWS OR ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE OUR READERS TO KNOW??
I just played some shows in SoCal last week and those were an absolute blast. I have a show August 24th at the High Watt in Nashville! Also trying to put together a tour so we’ll see. Oh and a music video :) More details coming soon, but I suggest following my socials to stay updated with everything!!
