SLEEP INN BY CITY WAVES
The last thing that should be done while listening to City Wave’s new LP is take a snooze. On August 7th, the LA based three piece released their latest LP Sleep Inn. City Waves has a Tijuana Panthers meets San Cisco sound, a sound that we should all tune into. In Sleep Inn, you can also hear their influences among the likes of the Arctic Monkeys, The Aquadolls, and The Cosmonauts.
Sleep Inn opens up with the warm and inviting bass line of the song “Sugar”. The rolling bass creates a path and leads to the doorway of a roomful of ambient surf rock. “Space Chick” is also a favorite. Lo-fi sounds fill the space as lyrics and background vocals round out the sound with layers of “ooo’s.” It takes us into a deep dream space only to pick back up tempo in the middle of the song and lift us upwards. “Dad Jeans” is one that describes us all when we go shopping for jeans at our local thrift store. The uptempo drum beat and lyrics about loving the jeans you’re in make you want to get up and dance around in the nearest dad jeans you have. This EP shows us that life is a trip to the beach, and City Waves definitely takes us there.
