METHYL ETHEL ON TOUR - BROOKLYN ON 11/15
Perth-based psychedelic project Methyl Ethel have recently embarked on their US tour with indie pop group The Drums. This Wednesday, November 15th, they will play Brooklyn Steel in support of their album Everything is Forgotten, released this March.
Adorned with luscious, enveloping synthesizers and toe-tapping guitar licks, Everything is Forgotten is an adamant declaration of Methyl Ethel’s place in neo-psychedelia. Fusing rhythmically complex guitar hooks with the aesthetic of psychedelic rock, the album’s songs demonstrate introspection while simultaneously demanding listeners to dance. “I am an actor, baby, fully formed… I can’t start again,” vocalist Jake Webb sings under layers of distortion and glittery synthesizers on track “L’heure des Sorcières.” Webb’s artistic evolution as a songwriter and producer is clear; in comparison to previous releases “Oh Inhuman Spectacle,” “Guts,” and “Teeth,” “Everything is Forgotten” yields pulsating polyrhythms in the vein of Caribou and LCD Soundsystem while maintaining the reverb-soaked guitar ethos of their origins.
